Framed history mural approx 12ft x 4ft. Seven anecdote panels approx 16 inches square.

Overview

This is the first mural we have designed to celebrate the history of a GP surgery. The Practice had been located in an old Victorian house on Dean Lane in Bristol, and we wanted to convey the affection in which the old practice site was held. With this in mind we created a frieze along the bottom of the mural, depicting memorable landmarks and buildings in the sequence they appeared along the road. The mural is displayed in the patients waiting room at the large new medical centre, now called Bedminster Family Practice.

Amongst the text compiled by Dr Gillian Rice were many anecdotes and amusing tales given by doctors and patients, past and present. Many of these could not be used within the context of the history wall mural, but were simply too good to lose! We decided to show each anecdote with an accompanying stylised photo, printed on stretched canvas prints and displayed on the opposite wall to the mural.

Feedback

"I showed the quarter size mural to the practice’s patient participation group this week and they were thrilled with it. One patient said ‘I don’t know what I had imagined it would look like but I never thought it would look as good as this!’ So impressed were they that several members of the group asked if it would be possible to buy a copy of the quarter size mural, or even a print that was slightly smaller.”
