USING YORKSHIRE LANDSCAPES TO TRANSFORM CORRIDORS

We were briefed to create artworks to enliven corridors for two separate departments at Bradford Teaching Hospitals but for each to have their own identity, complement colour schemes and fit around existing handrails, information posters, etc.

In the Medical Physics Department we’ve used calming colours to complement the existing shades of blue and light brown flooring. On our first day we fitted sturdy trunks of birch trees with their recognisable patterns and freshly coloured leaves trailing as if from uppermost branches. Birds and even a cheeky fox completed the imagery. Whilst in the reception area waiting patients are now treated to a tranquil view of Lapwings taking off and landing amongst rolling Yorkshire dales.

The next day we fitted wildflowers to the lower wall space in the Renal Therapy Ward corridors. We had designed these bold blooms so that installation could be completed without having to move a single information poster!

We received so many appreciative comments, which all goes to prove how art can evoke memories and emotions and further enrich the atmosphere around hospital corridors.
