LOCAL INTEREST

Children feel particularly vulnerable when entering hospital. They are suddenly in a very different place surrounded by people they don’t know. Sometimes a parent can stay with their child but this isn’t always possible. Children of all ages therefore need light and airy, friendly and welcoming surroundings filled with bright, colourful and joyful artworks to help them feel they have entered a soothing yet vibrant environment full of distractions.

Within the outer boundaries of a hospital there are often countless areas of interest to draw upon to create bold, colourful artworks. This particular design draws on countryside closest to a hospital, in this case the Yorkshire Dales, with its drystone walls and distinctive sheep that abound in this rugged and beautiful landscape.

Here we have taken inspiration from an indoor wildlife park, Tropical World, a place where children of all ages can visit and feel transported to another world. In both of these designs we have added child friendly descriptions with a touch of humour - something to reassure an anxious child and relieve boredom.
