Golden Daffodils

Honouring Organ Donors in South Wales

Set within an entrance to Prince Charles Hospital, this artwork creates a vibrant welcome for everyone who passes through. Made up of over 100 yellow daffodils, the piece surrounds the space across three walls, transforming the once plain white interior into a colourful, uplifting tribute to organ donors, their families and staff who help to make donation possible.

Daffodils and What They Represent

Daffodils are one of the first flowers to appear after winter. They symbolise hope, renewal, and the start of something new. As the national flower of Wales, they also carry a sense of local pride. Each bloom in this artwork represents the life-changing gift that donors give to others.

A Poem in Bloom

Flowing along the side wall is a gentle curve of daffodils nearly 11 metres long. A poem follows the line of the flowers, written in both Welsh and English, it offers a quiet, reflective moment:

A drift of golden daffodils,
Trumpets heralding spring’s embrace.
Hopes of new beginnings softly stir,
As whispers of sunlight warm the place.
Gliding through the open woods,
Their blooms invite us to explore,
In each blossom, a story unfolds,
Inviting us to receive a life once more.

Sharing the Message

Next to the artwork is a plaque with information about organ donation and a QR code linking directly to the NHS Organ Donor Register. It is designed not only to commemorate those who have given back, but to encourage conversations with loved ones that could help save lives.
